Hair Transplantation in Korea for Men

A hair transplant redistributes existing follicles. It does not stop progressive hair loss or create an unlimited donor supply.

Assessment first. Realistic expectations. No pressure to proceed.

What concern does this address?

The consultation should identify the type and stability of hair loss, the density and quality of the donor area, likely future loss and the design appropriate for the patient’s age and facial proportions.

Several conditions can look similar

A visible concern does not always have a single cause. The first consultation should identify the underlying anatomy, tissue characteristics, previous treatment and the outcome the patient actually expects.

  • Androgenetic male-pattern hair loss
  • Maturing or receding hairline
  • Crown thinning
  • Diffuse thinning
  • Scarring or inflammatory alopecia
  • Previous transplant with unnatural design or poor density

Treatment options that may be discussed

  • Medical treatmentFinasteride, dutasteride, minoxidil or other clinician-directed treatment may help preserve existing hair.
  • FUEFollicular units are extracted individually, leaving small dot scars.
  • FUT or strip surgeryA strip of donor scalp is removed, producing a linear scar but potentially preserving graft efficiency in selected patients.
  • Shaved or non-shaved approachesChange visibility, procedure time and cost; they do not replace good graft planning.
  • Hairline or crown transplantationRequires different density and direction planning.
  • Revision transplantationMay soften an unnatural hairline or add density, subject to remaining donor supply.

Who may be a suitable candidate?

A suitable candidate has a diagnosable pattern of hair loss, adequate donor hair, realistic density expectations and a plan for ongoing loss. Very young patients or those with unstable diffuse loss require caution.

Expected change and important limitations

Transplanted follicles may grow, but native hair can continue to thin. The final appearance depends on graft survival, hair calibre, curl, colour contrast, direction, donor limitation and future loss. “Guaranteed survival rates” should be treated cautiously.

Recovery and international travel

Crusting, redness and swelling can be visible during early recovery. Patients need clear washing, sleeping, sun, exercise and hat instructions. Long-haul travel should be timed around the surgeon’s review plan.

Suggested planning window in Korea

Commonly several days, with longer planning when an early wash or postoperative review is required.

Variable — the treating doctor determines your schedule.

Questions to ask the doctor

  • What diagnosis explains my hair loss?
  • How many grafts are recommended and why?
  • Who designs the hairline and performs extraction and implantation?
  • How will future hair loss be managed?
  • What is the risk of overharvesting my donor area?
  • When can I wash, wear a hat, exercise and fly?
